I’m Nathan! One of my favourite memories this summer has been gathering together in worship with my fellow brothers and sisters in Power to Change.
How has following Jesus impacted your goals and plans this summer?
Following Jesus this summer has really humbled me. Christ has shown me value of relying on His strength and grace. It is the only fulfilling way of living. I had big goals to lead in different ministries this summer, and yet many of them have fallen away due to various reasons, but I can trust God and rejoice in Him regardless.
Why is engaging in missions important to you?
Because there are many men and women who don’t know Jesus and are facing an eternity of judgement, while missing out on an eternity of life and joy. And any day if they would simply rest upon Jesus for salvation, they would be saved! God uses missional living and preaching and discipleship as the means to lead mankind to believe in Him, thus what could be more important!
Can you share about the spiritual climate or ministry overview during your time on your missions trip?
I have served before on a mission trip that was much more spiritually dry than Canada called Desert Rain. It opened my eyes to the hardness of hearts that many have towards the gospel. It only induces in me a desire to pray, for only the Spirit can change their heart. Yet there is a warming of hearts that is taking place in the country that gives me much hope.
How would you encourage someone looking to get involved or engaged missionally? Any specific resources, tools, or communities to connect with?
I would first recommend them to know the Bible well while living missionally. The greatest pitfalls in my missional living could have been my greatest successes if I was more deeply studied in the Word. It leads to righteousness which intrigues those around us about God. But also, who is saved apart from God’s word?
And get to know communities of people who are also saturated in God’s word and spend time amongst them, praying too.
