Hi everyone! My name is Simon and I am a dude who wants to follow Jesus in everything I do. I also just graduated from UofT engineering. One of my favourite memories this summer was travelling to Asia with my roomie as a grad trip. I loved trying Vietnamese food, making friends with some local students there, and going on hikes to see the stunning nature!
How has following Jesus impacted your goals and plans this summer?
My decision to follow Jesus impacted my summer plans a lot! While I was in Asia, I really wanted to learn about the spiritual landscape over there. I'm super thankful that I made some great friends in Vietnam who were so open to sharing what they believe in, and I'm thankful for how they were willing to listen as I shared about my belief in Jesus! I am so glad we got to learn from each other.
Why is engaging in missions important to you?
Engaging in missions is really important to me because I genuinely believe that a relationship with Jesus is the most transformational thing that can happen in a persons life. In my own life, my relationship with Jesus has completely uprooted my fruitless pursuit of happiness in things like relationships and video games, and given me a solid and consistent source of joy in my life. I've also seen the courses of others' lives changed for the better in such powerful ways. They are so full of joy and excitement and love after meeting Jesus. I am eager to share about Jesus with everyone because I want everyone to experience this change in their lives, as well as to have eternal life with God!
How would you encourage someone looking to get involved or engaged missionally?
I would encourage them by saying its actually super easy to start living missionally. It doesn't require you to change your degree, profession, study routine, or go on a missions trip (although it might impact those things). Living missionally starts with understanding who you are- you are someone who knows God and can help others know Him in every space you inhabit. In your friendships, you can freely talk about how God is helping you cope with stress or fear of the future. In your study routine, you can pray for God's help in staying focused and studying to honor Him. Maybe your buddies will ask you what you are doing, and boom another easy way to share about the amazing relationship you have with Him! There are literally a million ways to live missionally in everyday life. If these things sound scary, awkward or intimidating, you're not alone! I felt (and sometimes still feel) the same way. Feel free to DM me, or talk to a leader at your campus fellowship, or connect with the missions hub, and we would love to talk more.
