Stories to Tell: Storm

Hi everyone! I’m Storm and I’m a recent graduate from UofT where I studied neuroscience! I came to Christ the end of my third year at UofT. Since then, fellowship was been key to my growth in faith! My favourite memory of the summer was the end of summer session potluck with Grace Toronto’s Young Adults!

How has following Jesus impacted your goals and plans this summer?

It has given me a lot of peace! Despite the uncertainty of trying to get jobs or get into grad school, I know he has a plan for me - the anxiety has been defeated by his promise!

Why is engaging in missions important to you?

Missions are so important to me because it is how we can help others experience the love and grace of God, that we have been blessed with. If people didn’t live missionally in the city, I don’t know where I would be - probably living in the sin of the world. But God has used them to speak to me and help me get to know him. So I know the importance of doing the same!

What opportunities did you have this summer to serve God?

I was given the opportunity to be one of the leaders at Grace Young Adults! It was a community of believers firm in their faith, but an environment where it was encouraging and comfortable for new believers. I think I saw the capabilities of using social media to spread word around, but also the importance of simple welcoming conversation. We are called to love our neighbours as ourselves, which means genuinely caring for them even if it is the first time you are meeting. From this sprouted many returning faces for bible study, sharing if meals, prayer and worship!

How would you encourage someone looking to get involved or engaged missionally?

I would suggest getting connected with and serving with their home church! It’s always a great starting space. In my experience, it is where a lot of the support and opportunity comes from!

Any specific stories of where you saw God at work this summer?

The power of prayer is amazing! I went to the fireworks for Canada Day at waterfront. I was with a dear friend and we just decided it was a great time to pray, even though we were sitting down surrounded by people. We just simply felt like it was right to do so. After we finished praying, a young man told us it was beautiful and was emotional. We got to talking just about the brokenness in his life. We got to pray for him and wish him well. God will use everything and anything for his will and kingdom, and we are so blessed that he uses us to experience his grace and show the light to others.
